What to Expect

During the first session, the client will discuss with the therapist the goals he or she wishes to achieve from massage, as well as health history, aches, pains, lifestyle, stress levels, etc.

In a typical session, the client wears loose and comfortable clothing (no shoes), and lies down on a massage bed.  The therapist examines the specific problem area(s) of the client and begins to apply treatment.

The major focus of manual application is upon specific pain sites, acupressure points, energy meridians, muscles and joints.  The goal is to disperse, tonify, activate, harmonize, and/or warm the qi and blood.  External herbal poultices, heat therapy, liniments, and salves may be used to enhance the manual therapeutic methods.

Sessions last from 30 minutes to 1 hour and may also include time for consultation and instruction in health qigong exercises.  Depending on the specific problems and goals of the client, he or she may return for additional treatments.

Please remember that communication is key to the success of a client’s massage sessions.  We will check in with you throughout the massage regarding pressure, techniques, and comfort levels.  If at any time you feel discomfort, the pressure is too much, or you would like more pressure, please communicate those things to your therapist so that he or she can adjust the work accordingly.  We ask that you pay attention to your body and note any changes that you experience following your massages.  We will keep progress charts of each session and any additional feedback from you may be noted in your file, if you wish.  You may see your file at any time.
